You may already know this, but "First" churches are usually meant to indicate they are the first of that denomination to be built in a city. There could also be a "First Methodist" and "First Baptist" somewhere in town as well. It's just a way to name the buildings/congregations as cities grow and additional churches are built for the same religions/denominations.
