I didn't know this instrument is called Harp in English. We call it "Chang" [چنگ] in Farsi which means five fingers or claws. I did a little bit of research and I found that the origin of the harp goes back to 4000 BC in Egypt and 3000 BC in Persia. Following is a carving in
Taqe Bostan, Iran showing women playing Chang (226 to 650 AD.)

I like your picture of the carving, compared with the modern photo. The harp is a remarkable instrument.
Very interesting what your research found.
And I have NEVER seen a harpist playing on the street for donations.
Good find, Meead!
