Shirazi Salad

This is my favorite "Shirazi Salad". Actually Shiraz is a city located in southwest of Iran with a long history since 2000 BC. Shiraz is known as the city of poets, wine and flowers. I'm not sure why this type of salad is named after Shiraz but probably it was first made there.

Ingredients:
2 medium tomatoes
1 medium cucumber
1/2 medium onion
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoons virgin olive oil
100 grams fresh mint (or 1/2 teaspoon dry mint)
with salt and black pepper

That sounds delicious. The cucumber and tomato combination was common in Turkey too. Very refreshing.

Looks a bit like Greek salad.

My first taste of this kind of salad was about 25 years ago in Chicago, in a restaurant called Tehran. I loved it. It seemed to me the key was to use a sharp tasting onion.
